Baldness Treatments
|
More and more men and women are becoming concerned with hair loss. It
might be the case that as more and more hair prevention techniques
emerge, more and more people are aware that they might have options for
controlling their hair loss. A quick search on the Internet readily
brings up a whole plethora of hair loss prevention "cure alls."
The question plaguing many who are suffering from hair loss is, "Why
me?" It can seem so unfair that even among family members there can be a
huge discrepancy in terms of relative hair growth. One brother may
suffer from typical male pattern baldness, while the others have a full,
thick heads of hair. Most experts agree that the source for the
discrepancy is primarily genetics and the luck (or misfortune) of the
genetic gamble.
What resources does the balding man or woman have then? There are a
number of different types of baldness treatments out there to choose
from. These treatments range wildly in price from a few dollars a week,
to several thousands of dollars over the course of a couple of years.
The biggest question you'll have to answer before you enter into a
baldness treatment program, is what is the relative degree of your
baldness? Are you just starting to lose your hair, or do you already
have a noticeable bald spot? Even if you have a complete lack of hair
from your forehead to the crown of your head, there might still be
options for you.
If you're just starting to lose your hair, you might want to consider
some of the topical hair loss solutions. These are usually in a cream
form and can be applied directly to your towel-dried scalp. Topical
solutions are generally fairly effective in slowing down a gradual hair
loss, but it's important to keep in mind that they won't magically
restore a full head of hair.
There is also a whole slew of medications you can take that purport to
slow or even reverse hair loss. These range from standard vitamin
supplements to herbal remedies to manufactured prescription-strength
medications. Many of the vitamin and herbal supplements aim to restore
nutrients to the scalp in order to help stimulate the growth of hair
follicles.
There Are Even More Drastic Baldness Treatments
Vitamins and herbal remedies can only go so far. Some of the
prescription strength drugs take baldness treatments to a whole new
level. Some are designed to effectively reverse the effects of
androgenetic alopecia. Androgenetic alopecia is perhaps the most common
cause of hair loss and centers around the production of a substance
called DHT. Some of these prescription drugs work by preventing the
production of DHT.
As a last, and perhaps most drastic solution, you can also have hair
follicles surgically implanted in your scalp. These are a vast
improvement on the "hair plugs" of yesteryear. Hair follicle implants
give a much more "natural" look to your head of hair, and they actually
provide you with a head of real live hair, instead of what is
essentially a surgically installed hairpiece.
